Dry Seasons (June to September and December to February) The two dry seasons represent optimal visiting periods for Volcanoes National Park. June through September offers the most reliable weather, with less rainfall, clearer skies, and drier trails making gorilla trekking and volcano hiking significantly easier. Wet Seasons (March to May and October to November) The rainy seasons bring daily afternoon showers and more challenging trekking conditions. However, these periods offer significant advantages for certain visitors. Permit availability increases dramatically, with bookings possible just weeks or days in advance. Accommodation rates often drop, and the parks feel less crowded. Festival and Cultural Timing Rwanda's annual Kwita Izina gorilla naming ceremony, typically held in September, celebrates new gorilla births with cultural performances, conservation discussions, and festivities. How to Get There

By Air International visitors arrive via Kigali International Airport, Rwanda's primary gateway served by major airlines including RwandAir, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Qatar Airways. The airport's modern facilities and efficient immigration processing make arrivals straightforward. From Kigali, helicopter transfers to Volcanoes National Park take approximately 20 minutes, offering spectacular aerial views of Rwanda's thousand hills, terraced agriculture, and volcanic peaks. Several operators provide scheduled and charter helicopter services, with helipads near major lodges. This luxury option eliminates road travel but costs significantly more than ground transportation. By Road Road transfers from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park cover approximately 110 kilometers and take two to three hours depending on traffic and stops. The journey northward follows well-maintained paved roads through Rwanda's scenic countryside, passing terraced hillsides, tea plantations, and rural villages.
